Audi A7 news | Audi unveils its best looking car | audi A7 luxuries car
Labels:
Car News
Audi A7, the best looking car Audi has made since the R8 sports car. This is a car which is like a sports coupe in its shape and design. From the front, the family resemblance to the Audi A6 and the A8 stays, but those with a fetish for behinds would find the A7' s flowing lines very organic.
The A7 sportback, as Audi prefers to call it, is basically an amalgamation of three forms: the character of a coupe, the comfort of an executive saloon and the practicality of an estate. It can also be ordered with a variety of tech toys, from a highend Bang & Olufsen sound system, to electronic parking assistance to Wi- Fi. It is not a small car either. At nearly 5 metres in length, this is a large car, though with a width of nearly 2 metres and a roofline even lower than that, it looks shapely rather than bulky.
Its potent engine ensures that 0- 100kph comes up in just 6.3 seconds. Drive with a light foot and she does not disappoint you with a brilliant 17kmpl of fuel economy. But a firm tap on the accelerator will awaken her horses and she will lunge towards the horizon.Sit back and enjoy the car's plush leather upholstery and excellent air- conditioning. The rear legroom is massive in this car. Its sharply sloping roofline should not be a problem for those wearing turbans and Derby hats.
want to make your A7 look dramatic on the road, then opt for LED headlamps, which are being offered for the first time in the Indian market after Audi's own A8. LED headlamps have small light-emitting diodes in place of a conventional bulb or ballast and last longer, besides being more environment friendly.
If you want to play around in the interiors, then an eight-inch monitor, which folds out from the dashboard, gives you access to the satellite navigation and multimedia system, as well as assorted niceties such as massaging seats.
So the A7 is a good looking car with plenty of features.
Is it worth its Rs 64 lakh, ex- showroom Delhi price? That depends on what you are looking for in a car. If you are the techie type with new toys around you all the time, then the A7 suits you perfectly.
Else, you could put in a few lakhs more and get the A8 for that ' executive' look!

Advice and Tips
Cell phones cause divorces so chuck your phones and stick to domestic work, says a state women's commission. We say ignore it!
Mobile phones can do more harm than just damage your brain with their radiation. If the Punjab State Commission for Women is to be believed, they can spell doom for marriages too. In a strange pamphlet it issued, women have been advised not to talk much on mobile phones as it can make husbands jealous. They should instead be good wives and concentrate on domestic chores. If that gives an idea of the way some commissions for women think, so much for women's lib!
Housewife's Guidebook?
Many decried the action as regressive and trivial, and ridiculed the PSCW head Gurdev Kaur Sangha's remarks that the move would help couples avoid suspicion. Sangha found that almost 40 per cent of women sought divorce on the grounds that their husbands and in- laws did not approve of them talking on their cell phones. But did we expect a state women's commission to come up with a good housewife's guidebook? For Sarah Ali, a creative director in an advertising agency, her cell phone is her goddess. She laughs it off when we tell her about the directive. "How can you expect working women like us to handle domestic chores without a cell phone?" she asks. Her cell phone is virtually her remote control for her children aged 13 and 10.
"That's how I give instructions to the maid and my children. And also keep an eye on my parents, who live alone. I do need the phone to talk to my friends about my grievances. I have been married for 15 years and have been using a cell phone for the past eight years... and till now, my husband has never been jealous of my cell phone," she says. Indeed, having problems with cell phone conversations would indicate a deep lack of trust.
This may come as a shocker to the Punjab State Women's Commission, but society has evolved from the 1930s. Be it a man or a woman, both are equally dependent on technology. Yasmeen Abrar, acting chairperson of the National Commission for Women finds the comments pretty regressive. "I do not agree. Such remarks should not be taken seriously," says Abrar. But do these remarks deliver the wrong message and in some parts of the country help push a woman's position lower?
Doctor's Prescription
Clinical psychologist Aruna Broota, who has counselled many a suspicious couple, agrees that the use of cell phones is often one of the grounds for divorce. "But this is not the solution to it," she admits. "In modern times a cell phone has become a very important tool for a woman to manage both work and home. Such irresponsible statements shouldn't be made without getting into the crux of the issue," says Broota.
In fact, the problem here is that the real issue is not being addressed here. Dr Bir Singh, who heads a pre- marriage orientation counselling course for couples in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, explains: "Just by instructing women not to use cell phones won't solve the problem. The real issue is the lack of trust between partners. If not cell phones, they will find some other excuse to get suspicious," says Dr Singh. In his pre- marital counselling cell, Dr Singh has handled several cases where couples have got suspicious of their partners because of long chats on cell phones. "Several women have come to me saying that their husbands might be having an affair because they are perpetually on the phone. So asking women to cut short their conversations would be wrong. Women too get equally suspicious, then why the bias?" he asks. It is just a way to grab eyeballs, adds Dr Broota. If it's just an attention- grabbing tactic, it's a rather irresponsible one that doesn't try to get to the root of the problem.
India and Its Women
A nation or a state is not judged by its prosperity but by the way it treats its women and you are absolutely right that as a nation we are seriously lagging behind," says Rajita Chaudhuri, dean Centre for Enterprise Management at the Indian Institute of Planning and Management. "We may aim to become the next superpower but if our women are not given equal education, safety and other opportunities that men receive, we as a nation will never be able to compete with the best. Countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland, etc are rated as the best nations to live in and one of the criteria for judging that is ‘ how are the women treated'. We fail miserably in that aspect," she says. When a woman's body comes up with such instructions for women, it looks like we are headed nowhere. "It's a pity that as a nation we have not been able to take care of our women, give them the right education so that they feel a sense of worth and look at not just others but themselves too with a feeling of respect. The Hindu culture worships the female goddess and yet we fail to acknowledge her in our own homes as she selflessly goes about playing the various roles of a mother, sister, wife, and daughter," says Chaudhuri. And now if women's organisations start falling into the gender stereotyping trap, every empowering gadget will come under suspicion. And the future will be bleak.

LONDON: Kate Middleton first won Prince William's affections when he paid £200 for her during a 'slave' auction at a Harry Potter-themed party months before seeing her in a see-through dress in a March 2002 fashion show, reveals a former housemate.
Laura Warshauer, who lived with the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in St Salvator's Hall during their first year at St Andrews University and watched them fall in love, also revealed new insights into the early days of the royal romance.
"One of my favourite memories was in November of (first) year and we were invited to a Harry Potter party at this castle. We all got on a bus to go there and I remember Kate and William dancing all night. There was a charity auction where you could bid for the person for the day and Will paid £200 for Kate. They already had that connection." she said.

This is according to a survey which has also revealed that the typical woman can cook only seven dishes from scratch half as many as their mums were able to serve up -- and more than half saying their husband is a better cook.
The poll of 2,000 men and women commissioned by the Good Food channel also found more than one in five women struggles with a basic curry, one in six cannot bake a cake and one in ten has never cooked a roast.
One in 20 even messes up boiling an egg or preparing a cooked breakfast. Around half admitted that their mothers would have easily fixed up any of those dishes. One in 10 women can cook fewer than three meals without looking at a recipe book or asking for help, the survey found.

WASHINGTON: Seeing it as signs of emerging of new world, US president Barack Obama has warned American students to strive hard to stay ahead as they face tough competition from youngsters in India and China.
"You're competing against young people in Beijing and Mumbai. That's some tough competition. Those kids are hungry. They're working hard. And you'll need to be prepared for it," Obama said in his remarks to students at Memphis, Tennessee.
"We live in a new world now. Used to be that you didn't have to have an education. If you were willing to work hard, you could go to a factory somewhere and get a job. Those times are passed. Believe it or not, when you go out there looking for a job, you're not just competing against people in Nashville or Atlanta," he said.
"And as a country, we need all of our young people to be ready. We can't just have some young people successful. We've got to have every young person contributing; earning those high school diplomas and then earning those college diplomas, or getting certified in a trade or profession. We can't succeed without it," he said in his speech.
Through education, he said, one can also better oneself in other ways.
"You learn how to think critically and find solutions to unexpected challenges. I remember we used to ask our teachers, 'Why am I going to need algebra?' Well, you may not have to solve for x to get a good job or to be a good parent. But you will need to think through tough problems. You'll need to think on your feet. You'll need to know how to gather facts and evaluate information. So, math teachers, you can tell your students that the President says they need algebra," he said amidst laughter.
Education, Obama said, also teaches the value of discipline -- that the greatest rewards come not from instant gratification but from sustained effort and from hard work.

It’s really exasperating to see fuel prices skyrocketing, right? We can only feel helpless in the face of recurring and economy-driven price fluctuations. Seeking measures to improve fuel economy is the only way to combat rising fuel prices. Do not disregard these simple guidelines; each little step can really start adding up to significant savings to your budget.

Keeping the tyres well inflated is one of the simplest things you can do to help improve your car’s fuel efficiency. You can improve the mileage by about 3.3 percent if you keep your tyres inflated properly, according to the DOE.
Lighten Your Load
Empty out your boot of unnecessary items. For every extra 45 kg you carry, your fuel efficiency can drop by 1-2% in a typical vehicle.

The faster you drive, the more fuel you use. Driving within the speed limit recommended by the manufacturer helps save fuel. Driving just 5mph over the speed limit can affect fuel economy by up to 23%. Likewise, quick acceleration consumes too much fuel; accelerate slowly and gradually.

5 things you should never share on Facebook | Facebook

Washington, May 18 : Almost every user likes to share everything on their Facebook page but certain updates can lead to criticism, embarrassment and even job termination.
So here's a shortlist of what you shouldn't share on the social networking site, reports CBS news.
1.That your job sucks.
If you say this, you could be fired.
2.That you hate your ex.
In the event that you and your boyfriend get back together, or you and that friend you had a falling out with start talking again, you'll look like a total sucker. It's okay to let your emotions govern your thoughts but keep your feelings off your Facebook until you've started to think clearly about said ex.
The important thing to remember about social networks is that although you have the option to delete your comments, sometimes it can be too late. It's immediate and someone might've laid eyes on it before your retraction.
3.That you're going on vacation and then give the dates you're away.
You could be robbed. A recent study found that thieves scan social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter for folks in targeted neighbourhoods before they strike.
4.That you love yourself.
In fact, don't give any indication that you're your biggest fan. Your followers will only think the opposite. It's the biggest barometer of insecurity. Researchers at the University at Buffalo also found that women who base their self-worth on appearance and what people think of them tend to upload pictures very frequently.
5.That you're mean.
Saying mean things about people can only make you undesirable-for potential employers, dates, friends and strangers.

The company was started by Valclav Laurin and Valclav Lement in the late 1800s and the company later merged with Skoda Works in 1924 and got the tag and logo of Skoda Auto. The first Skoda with the winged arrow logo on it came out of production lines eight and a half decades ago from Mladรก Boleslav on 10 May, 1926. Three years later, nearly a 100 luxury sedans followed the same suit. The company had already purchased the license from Sapnish Hispano-Suiza in 1924. Production of the car started in 1925 and it took a year before the first car was out of the production lines. The Skoda arrow winged logo |
Skoda later became a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in 2000 though a merger between the two auto manufacturers started in the early 1990s. The winged arrowed car manufacturer’s drive has been long and progressive.
Skoda has retained the same winged arrow logo for almost 85 years till very recently, when they gave it a makeover before the Geneva Motor Show 2011. The new logo is a representation of accuracy and precision, a belief that the Czech auto manufacturer has always stood for.

From the Hispano Suiza to the Yeti, from that era to this day, Skoda has traveled a lot of miles in it journey. From a 100 cars produced in a year, stats of recent sales reflect figures of more than 6, 00,000 units sold across the globe in 2009.

NEW YORK: Cisco Systems Inc, the world's largest maker of computer networking gear, said that it's set to eliminate thousands of jobs as part of cost-cutting moves to get profits growing again.
Cisco's sales rebounded from the recession, but then started stalling in the middle of last year. In the past few months, CEO John Chambers has signaled that he's accepting long-standing criticism that the company is trying to compete in too many markets. He has vowed to radically simplify the company.

Sundar Pichai, VP of Product Management for Google, displays Acer and Samsung notebooks running on the Chrome operating System at the Google IO Developers Conference in San Francisco, Wednesday, May 11, 2011.
AN FRANCISCO: Laptop computers using Google's Chrome operating system will go on sale in June, as the world's No. 1 Internet search engine challenges Microsoft Corp and Apple on their home turf.
The new Web-centric PCs, made by Samsung and Acer Inc, are Google's latest attempt to change how consumers and companies use their computers.
Users can use applications directly on the web
Sundar Pichai, senior vice president of Chrome at Google, announces a Samsung notebook running Google Chrome OS during the keynote address at the Google I/O Developers Conference in the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California, May 11, 2011.
he bare-bones operating system is essentially a web browser that steers users to use applications like email and spreadsheets directly on the web, instead of storing software such as Outlook or Word directly on PCs.
Moving day-to-day functions onto the Internet removes the burden of time-consuming tasks associated with traditional PCs, like installing software and updates, backing up files and running antivirus checks, executives said.
Managing computer will become easy
"The complexity of managing your computer is torturing users," Google cofounder Sergey Brin told reporters. "It's a flawed model fundamentally. Chromebooks are a new model that doesn't put the burden of managing your computer on yourself."

Twitter helped doctors during Japanese disaster

Doctors in Japan used Twitter to coordinate medical assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that hit the country in March this year.
In a letter to The Lancet this week, Yuichi Tamura and Keiichi Fukuda of the Keio University School of Medicine in Tokyo say the social networking service played a significant role in triumphing over the disaster.
The pair explain the earthquake made it difficult to ensure a continuous supply of drugs for their patients suffering chronic diseases such as pulmonary hypertension. With phone lines unreliable but internet connections still working, they turned to Twitter to help inform people where to get their medicine.
Tamura set up an account, @ut1tamura, three days after the disaster and tweeted information from his hospital computer, providing messages in Japanese such as "Patient can get the orphan drugs for pulmonary hypertension in XX hospital" or "Patient should keep additional oxygen tanks preparing for electrical power interruption, and can get tanks by XX".
Retweeting meant the messages spread rapidly and ordinary Twitter users were quick to lend a hand. "Not only patients but also other general persons provided retweets," says Tamura.
This stream of information combined with drug deliveries to patients by medical staff meant that all of their patients received the treatment they needed.

Super accurate clock | Super-accurate clocks emerge from 'heat haze'

Clocks that gain or lose no more than a fraction of a second over the lifetime of the universe could be on the way, thanks to a technique for cutting through the "heat haze" that compromises the accuracy of today's instruments.
The most accurate atomic clock we have now is regulated by the electrons of a single aluminium ion as they move between two different orbits with sharply defined energy levels. When an electron goes from the higher energy level to the lower it emits radiation of a precise frequency. That frequency is used to mark out time to an accuracy of better than 1 part in 1017, or 1 second in 3 billion years.
That's pretty good, but it could be better. Infrared photons emanating from the background cause the two energy levels to shift by slightly different amounts, says Marianna Safronova at the University of Delaware. That affects the frequency of the emitted radiation to an unknown extent, adding a small uncertainty to the clock's tick.
Safronova reported this month at a conference in Baltimore, Maryland, that by combining two different mathematical approaches, she and her colleagues have now managed to calculate how much the energy gap between the two levels changes.
Using this information to correct an atomic clock could in principle increase its precision to around 4 parts in 1019, or about 1 second per 80 billion years. Such a clock could test whether the fundamental constants of nature are changing, Safronova suggests.
Green Machine | Green Machine: 'Vertical street' collects rainwater

The world's first "vertical street" will soon be built in Melbourne, Australia.
Every sixth floor of the 35-storey building will have gardens capable of growing trees up to 10 metres tall and the entire building will be boasting the very latest in green technology.
While roof gardens and landscaped balconies have been constructed in the past, project architect Robert Caulfield of CK Designworks, Melbourne, says this is the first time that five high-rise communal gardens have been attempted in the same building.
To achieve this feat, purpose-built planter boxes allowing tree roots to grow in the confined 120-square-metre gardens, and structural supports that hold the weight of the soil and trees will be used. Heat-reflective glass and solar-powered lighting will also be incorporated.
Since the site is a mere 360 square metres, the building's external walls - more than 8000 square metres - will be used to catch rainwater. "This is unusual," says Caulfield. Normally strong winds "just blow the rain off the building".
(Image: CK Designworks)
But, in this development, triangular balconies and a jagged faรงade are used to reduce the sideways movement of the wind, minimising the water escaping from the side. The catchment will feed into the building's water supply to be used for garden watering and toilet flushing.
The heating and cooling systems are also designed around the gardens. Conventional buildings either use individual air-conditioner systems,or long pipes that pump hot or cold water down the entire building. Both systems are inefficient, either wasting energy by heating one apartment at a time, or losing heat as water is moved great distances.
"We have a hybrid version," says Caulfield. A cooling system installed in each garden will pump water to only six floors, three above and three below. "The short pipe minimises heating or cooling loss," he says.
The building, which will house shops, offices and 154 apartments, will be completed by 2014.
And with horizontal space in demand worldwide, our vertical world is sure to expand. Caulfield's next project is building vertical factories in Nanjing, China.
