Report: UP minor girl was murdered not raped

LUCKNOW: The second post- mortem report of Sonam has confirmed that she was strangulated. The first report had stated that she died of hanging. Sonam's body was found hanging from a tree within the compound of Naghasan police station in Lakhimpur on Friday night.

Shortly after a five member team of senior doctors from Lucknow confirmed the cause of death as strangulation, all three doctors of the panel which conducted the first post mortem and declared the cause of death as asphixiya as a result of ante mortem hanging, were put under suspension.

Department proceedings against the three doctors who submitted a false post mortem report in Lakhimpur case have already been initiated and possibilities were that the doctors may be named as accused in the murder case and prosecuted for tampering of evidence, government sources said.

A team of CB CID sleuths reached Lakhimpur early on Monday morning and started investigations into the Sonam case. The state government had directed the CB-CID to probe the case following allegations that the local police were trying to cover up the crime.

UP Director general of police Karamveer Singh confirmed that the second post mortem report of Sonam has established the cause of death as strangulation.

Three persons have been named as accused for the murder and rape of Sonam by the victim's mother. One of the accused, a police follower Ram Chander has already been arrested. The remaining two are believed to be posted as constables at Naghasan police station itself.
